Police Inspector Killed During Attack on Imo Commissioner’s Home

On Monday morning, armed men attacked the residence of Rex Anunobi, the Commissioner for Trade and Investment in Imo State, resulting in the death of police inspector Henry Effiong, who was on guard. The assailants disarmed Effiong, stealing his rifle and phones before killing him.

Imo State Police spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent Henry Okoye, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday, although he did not name the deceased inspector. Following the report, the state Commissioner of Police, Audu Bosso, ordered an investigation to determine the circumstances of the attack and to apprehend the perpetrators.

In compliance with this directive, the Deputy Commissioner of Police overseeing the State Criminal Investigations Department, along with the Divisional Police Officer of New Owerri Division, visited the scene for examinations and recovery of relevant evidence. The remains of Inspector Effiong were taken to the mortuary, and Commissioner Bosso expressed condolences to Effiong's family, assuring them that efforts would be made to catch the attackers.
