Army Arrests Five Suspected Bandit Informants in Niger

On June 6, 2026, the Joint Task Force Operation Savannah Shield arrested five suspected bandit informants in Niger State during routine patrols across various locations. Captain Jamilu Yahaya disclosed that the suspects were linked to a criminal network operating in the region, particularly around the fringes of Kainji Lake National Park.

The operation led to the recovery of two Tecno keypad phones, an MP3 device, and cash amounting to 113,400 Naira. Preliminary investigations revealed that the MP3 device contained recorded propaganda messages claiming the abduction of individuals in Kaduna State for ransom, amounting to 60 million Naira.

Additionally, two more suspects were apprehended during patrols along the canton perimeter fence in Niger State. The investigation revealed disturbing images on the suspects' phones, suggesting possible links to terrorist activities.

The five suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue, reflecting the military's commitment to dismantling criminal support structures in the region.
