Nigerian Army Reopens Imo Road, Dismantles Explosives Factory

The Nigerian Army, under the command of Lt. Col.

Olabisi Ayeni, has successfully reopened a major road in Imo State that had been shut for three years due to persistent threats from the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN) militants. This operation, part of a broader initiative called "Eastern Sanity," aimed to dismantle criminal enclaves and restore normalcy to affected communities.

Conducted on March 6, 2026, the clearance operation involved collaboration with the Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Air Force, Department of State Services, Nigeria Police Force, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps. Troops discovered several improvised explosive devices and an explosives factory during the operation, successfully disconnecting and safely recovering ordnance to prevent potential casualties.

The operation also included the recovery of various military items, including ammunition and a CCTV camera. The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining pressure on criminal networks threatening peace and security in the region.
