Bandits Attack Zamfara Community, Killing Two Soldiers

In the early hours of Saturday, gunmen suspected to be bandits attacked the Kasuwar-Daji community in the Kaura Namoda local government area of Zamfara State, resulting in the deaths of two security personnel and the abduction of approximately 70 civilians, primarily women and children. The attack occurred around 1:40 a.m. at the Forward Operating Base in Kasuwar-Daji.

Conflict journalist Bakatsine reported that the attackers overran the military outpost after a gun battle, killing two soldiers and injuring several others. They set fire to a military Hilux vehicle and the soldiers’ accommodation before entering the community, where they looted shops.

Local sources indicated that the area remains vulnerable due to difficult terrain and limited troop presence, which armed groups exploit for abductions and cattle rustling. The Nigerian Army later issued a statement providing a different account of the incident.
