Bandits Kill Vigilante Leader in Katsina Attack

On July 15, 2026, armed bandits attacked Gora Village in Malumfashi Local Government Area, Katsina State, resulting in the death of local vigilante leader Alhaji Nuhu Barau. The Katsina State Police Command, through DSP Abubakar Sadiq, confirmed that a distress call was received at 10:00 AM, prompting a swift response from the Malumfashi division.

Although the police team successfully repelled the bandits and foiled their assault, they arrived too late to save Barau, who was fatally shot during the attack. Following the incident, an angry mob temporarily blocked the Malumfashi-Katsina highway for four hours, disrupting traffic.

Police and military personnel managed to disperse the crowd without further escalation. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing assailants, and the police have urged the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
