Bauchi Governor Advocates for Credible Broadcasting

On September 29, Bauchi State Governor Sen. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed called on broadcasters nationwide to promote credible broadcasting to strengthen democracy, addressing the challenges posed by misinformation and fake news. Speaking at the 3rd Annual Conference and Induction of New Members of the Society of Nigerian Broadcasters (SNB) at the Ahmadu Bello International Conference Centre, he was represented by his Deputy, Rt.

Hon. Muhammad Auwal Jatau. The conference, themed “Responsible Broadcasting in an Election Year: Countering Misinformation, Promoting Peace and Strengthening Democracy,” highlighted the critical need for verification and responsible reporting.

Governor Mohammed noted that his administration had invested over N3 billion in modernizing state-owned media to enhance digital broadcasting capabilities. He stressed that credible broadcasting is essential for combating misinformation and fostering public trust, especially with the 2027 general elections approaching.

The governor also praised the SNB for its democratic processes and encouraged members to reflect on their achievements and challenges during the conference.
