Bauchi State Enhances Security and Tourism Facilities

Bauchi State is taking significant steps to enhance security and upgrade facilities at its tourism sites, particularly at Yankari Game Reserve. During a press briefing on Wednesday, Dr.

Muhammad Nasiru, the Managing Director of the Bauchi State Tourism Development Corporation, outlined the government's commitment to protecting the state's ecological assets. The region has faced threats from poachers, illegal loggers, and livestock grazers, exacerbated by broader insecurity linked to banditry.

The government has implemented a strategic plan to fortify security, including joint patrols with local forest rangers, the Nigerian Army, and police forces. Advanced surveillance systems, including satellite tracking and video monitoring, have been deployed.

The government is also focusing on improving tourism infrastructure, with renovations at Wikki Warm Spring and the introduction of solar power systems. Monthly tourist visits to Yankari have increased from 500 to 2,000, benefiting local vendors and artisans.

The state plans to enforce mandatory digital registration for tourism-related businesses to enhance revenue generation and security monitoring.
