MASSOB Announces Sit-at-Home for Biafra Day 2026

The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has declared a sit-at-home order for May 30, 2026, to mark the 59th anniversary of the declaration of Biafra by late General Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu on May 30, 1967. The group's director, Edeson Samuel, announced this in an official press release, emphasizing the significance of the anniversary as a milestone in the ongoing self-determination struggle.

The order mandates the closure of markets, schools, banks, and public transport from 6 AM to 4 PM on that day. Additionally, church memorial services will be held across the South East and South South regions.

MASSOB cautioned its members against public gatherings that could lead to confrontations with security agencies and stated that no physical demonstrations would occur. The group also expressed solidarity with detained leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and urged residents to remain resolute despite anticipated heavy security presence on the anniversary.
