Northern Senators Demand Action After Borgu Mosque Attack

The Northern Senators Forum has called for the immediate and safe release of residents abducted by gunmen during an attack on Kpenya Mosque and surrounding communities in Borgu Local Government Area, Niger State. In a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, the forum’s Chairman, Senator Abdulaziz Yar’Adua, condemned the attack that occurred during Jumat prayers, where worshippers were abducted.

The attack took place around 2 pm, with reports indicating that children, women, and the elderly were among those taken. The forum expressed deep concern over the incident, particularly regarding the use of landmines by the attackers and the further abduction of residents as bargaining chips.

Yar’Adua described the targeting of worshippers as cowardly and urged security agencies, including the Armed Forces and Nigeria Police Force, to intensify rescue operations. He also called for urgent relief and medical assistance for affected residents and a comprehensive review of the security architecture in Niger State and the North-Central region.
