BPP DG Urges SSDC Board to Prioritize Procurement Compliance

Dr. Adebowale A. Adedokun, FCIPS, the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement, addressed the Board and Senior Management of the South-South Development Commission (SSDC) during a two-day Induction Programme organized with the Bureau of Public Service Reforms.

He emphasized the necessity of adhering to the Public Procurement Act 2007 in all SSDC operations, describing procurement as a crucial tool for national development. Dr. Adedokun outlined core principles such as fairness, transparency, and accountability, warning against common procurement violations.

He mentioned ongoing reforms, including a review of the Public Procurement Act, development of a National Procurement Strategy Framework, and the implementation of digital platforms to enhance efficiency. He disclosed that approximately N1.1 trillion was saved from procurement processes in 2025 and highlighted the importance of having an approved procurement plan before initiating procurement activities, noting that failure to do so is a criminal offense.

Recent amendments in the Finance Act require written confirmation from the political head for Tenders Board decisions.
