Atiku Pledges to End Insecurity in Nigeria Within 12 Months

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), announced his commitment to eradicate insecurity in Nigeria within 12 months of his potential election. In an interview with BBC Hausa, he detailed plans to recruit additional security personnel, improve equipment, and create job opportunities for unemployed youths.

Atiku also emphasized the importance of regional security, proposing to revive the Economic Community of West African States Monitoring Group (ECOMOG) by collaborating with ECOWAS leaders to strengthen military cooperation among member states, including Côte d'Ivoire, Sierra Leone, and Liberia. He expressed the need to maintain Nigeria's bilateral relationship with Niger Republic despite its military government, citing shared historical and cultural ties.

Additionally, Atiku discussed the credibility of the electoral body, urging Nigerians to vote and protect their ballots. He acknowledged the hardships caused by the removal of the fuel subsidy and stated that his administration would consult stakeholders before making decisions on the subsidy.

Atiku confirmed that the 2027 elections would be his final attempt at the presidency.
