Supreme Court Voids PDP National Convention in Ibadan

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has declared the national convention of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15-16, 2025, as void. This ruling came after the court found that the convention proceeded despite an existing court order that restrained the PDP from conducting the exercise.

The court identified breaches of the party's constitution and failures to comply with due process, including unresolved disputes from state congresses. An earlier ruling by the Federal High Court had already halted the convention, citing violations of judicial directives.

The Supreme Court's decision upheld this earlier judgment, confirming that the convention was conducted in violation of a valid court order. The ruling effectively concludes the prolonged legal battle over the PDP leadership, as the faction led by Turaki sought to overturn the judgment but was unsuccessful.
