Chelsea Signs Emiliano Martínez from Aston Villa for £7.5M

Chelsea Football Club has reached an agreement with Aston Villa to sign Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez for a reported fee of £7.5 million. Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano announced the deal on X, stating that both clubs have agreed on terms for a permanent transfer, and Martínez has approved the move.

The 33-year-old goalkeeper became available after Aston Villa signed Japan international Zion Suzuki from Parma as their new long-term No. 1. Chelsea's interest in Martínez intensified due to concerns regarding Robert Sánchez's performance during a Premier League match against Fulham, where Sánchez made errors that contributed to Fulham's goals.

Martínez has been training separately from the Villa first team and was excluded from the squad for their opening Premier League fixture against Brighton. He joined Aston Villa from Arsenal in 2020 and played a crucial role in Argentina's 2022 World Cup victory and Villa's Europa League success last season.

The transfer is subject to Martínez passing a medical and completing other formalities before the Premier League transfer window closes on September 1.
