Chevening Alumni Launch Road Safety Training Initiative

The Chevening Alumni Association of Nigeria has launched the Lagos Road-Safety Initiative: Enhancing Community-Led Emergency Post-Crash Response, aimed at training 250 community members and transport workers in emergency assistance for road crash victims along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The initiative, supported by the Chevening Alumni Programme Fund 2026–2027 from the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, seeks to reduce preventable deaths by equipping residents with emergency response skills during the critical first hour after a crash.
The project will run until February 2027 and includes five training workshops along the expressway. Participants will learn to secure crash scenes, control bleeding, and communicate with emergency services.
The training is free, starting with a train-the-trainer program for 30 peer trainers in October, followed by community workshops until December. The initiative aims to reach over 11,300 people through peer-led training and awareness campaigns, with resources available in English, Yoruba, and Nigerian Pidgin.
Dr. Kiitan Bolajoko emphasized the importance of training bystanders to provide timely assistance.
