Tinubu Dismisses NMDPRA Chief, Appoints Rabiu Umar

On Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu announced the removal of Saidu Mohammed from his position as Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), citing overall public interest as the reason for this decision. In his place, Rabiu Abdullahi Umar has been nominated as the new Chief Executive, although this appointment is subject to Senate confirmation.

The decision aligns with the provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act 2021, which aims to strengthen regulatory effectiveness within the midstream and downstream petroleum sectors in Nigeria, in line with Tinubu's Renewed Hope agenda. The outgoing Chief Executive, Saidu Mohammed, was thanked for his service, and the President expressed his commitment to ensuring capable leadership within regulatory institutions to advance energy security and sustain economic growth.

Rabiu Umar brings 25 years of experience across the energy, manufacturing, and infrastructure sectors, with a proven track record in strategic leadership and large-scale project delivery. He is a graduate of Bayero University and Harvard Business School.
