Corps Member Killed in Abuja Gunfire Exchange with Robbers

On Saturday, during the early hours, a corps member named Mr. Jamiu was tragically killed in Abuja's Shagari Estate amid a gunfire exchange between soldiers and armed robbers. The Nigerian Army, through Lt. Olawuyi Odunola, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Sunday, explaining that troops from the Guard Brigade were conducting a routine night patrol when they received a distress call regarding an ongoing robbery.

Upon their arrival, they encountered gunfire from the robbers, leading to a brief but intense exchange. Unfortunately, Mr. Jamiu was caught in the crossfire despite the soldiers' efforts to secure the area and preserve lives.

The Army expressed deep sorrow over the loss and extended condolences to the family of the deceased and others affected by the incident. A full investigation has been initiated to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident, and the deceased's body has been deposited at Kubwa General Hospital.

The Army reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property within the Federal Capital Territory.
