INEC Displays Preliminary Voters' Register in Lagos

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the display of the preliminary voters' register in Lagos State, as announced by Prof. Ayobami Salami, the Resident Electoral Commissioner.

This initiative, which began on April 29 and will continue until May 5, 2023, allows eligible citizens to verify their registration details from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM daily, excluding weekends. The exercise is conducted in accordance with Section 19 of the Electoral Act 2022, enabling residents to object to any inaccuracies in the register, such as names omitted, incorrectly captured details, or registrations of ineligible individuals, including deceased persons and non-Nigerians.

Prof. Salami emphasized the importance of this verification process for the credibility of the 2027 elections, scheduled for January 16, 2027, for presidential and national assembly elections, and February 6, 2027, for governorship and state house assembly elections.

He urged political stakeholders to mobilize citizens to participate in this critical exercise.
