Carlos Alcaraz Withdraws from 2024 French Open Due to Injury

Carlos Alcaraz, the defending champion of the French Open, has announced that he will not participate in the 2024 tournament due to a wrist injury. The injury occurred during the first round of the Barcelona Open, where he defeated Otto Virtanen but subsequently withdrew from the tournament.

Alcaraz's team made the decision to prioritize his recovery, stating that it is better for his long-term career not to compete at this time. He expressed hope that the injury is not serious and emphasized the importance of a full recovery to avoid future complications.

Alcaraz, who became the youngest man to complete a career Grand Slam with his Australian Open victory in January, holds a 22-3 record for the season. He lost his top ranking following a defeat to Jannik Sinner in the Monte Carlo Masters final on April 12.

The French Open is scheduled to run from May 24 to June 7, 2024.
