Dekina APC Chairman Shot Dead on Kogi Highway; Companion Abducted

An ambush along the Itobe-Ochadamu Expressway on Thursday evening claimed the life of Hon. Ishaq Yunusa, who served as All Progressives Congress chairman for Dekina Local Government Area in Kogi State. The same incident led to the kidnapping of another passenger travelling with him.

The expressway location near Ojuwo Olijo, situated in Ofu Local Government Area, witnessed the attack at approximately 5 p.m. According to Friday's statement from ASP Afusat Saliu, the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, attackers with firearms emerged from bushland bordering the road.

These gunmen opened fire on passing motorists before vanishing into surrounding vegetation. A blue Toyota Corolla fell victim to the assault, with one occupant forcibly taken away by the perpetrators.

Investigative efforts have commenced within the Kogi State Police Command to pursue the kidnappers and retrieve the abducted victim. Authorities have also deployed officers to enhance security presence across the expressway, which has emerged as a zone of recurring criminal incidents.

Yunusa's killing represents yet another major security occurrence in Kogi State, where motorists and community members face repeated threats from organized armed groups. As of the reporting deadline, police have withheld information regarding identities of other vehicle occupants and developments concerning the kidnapped person.
