Nigeria Police Confident in Managing Criminal Activities

During a stakeholder engagement consultative meeting at the Bauchi State Police Command headquarters, Deputy Inspector General of Police Zachariah Fera Achinyan stated that the Nigeria Police Force is not overwhelmed by the sophistication of criminals. He asserted that the police can contain criminal activities across the country despite operational challenges.

Achinyan highlighted that successful crime fighting relies heavily on cooperation from citizens, traditional institutions, religious leaders, and community groups. He noted that the police must operate within the confines of the law to maintain public trust.

Bauchi State Commissioner of Police Sani Omolori Aliyu outlined challenges faced by the command, including inadequate operational vehicles, a shortage of arms and ammunition, and insufficient surveillance equipment. Despite these constraints, the command has recorded notable successes, including the investigation of 294 suspects for various offenses in the last six months, the rescue of 29 kidnap victims, and the recovery of several firearms and vehicles linked to criminal activities.
