Fire Destroys Kano Polytechnic Library, Major Losses Reported

A fire broke out at Kano Polytechnic's main library, located along Buk Road in Kano, around 3 AM on Wednesday, completely razing the building. The fire destroyed nearly everything inside, including offices, books, and exam records.

Chief Librarian Auwal Ismail Bagwai confirmed that the fire continued to rage until the roof collapsed, prompting security personnel to alert the fire service. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported.

Malam Nazir Muhammad, Chairman of the National Library Staff Union Kano State Chapter, described the incident as a major setback for the teaching and research institution, emphasizing the loss of crucial educational materials and tools that support academic activities. The union expressed sympathy for the library workers and the management of the polytechnic, appealing to the government and educational authorities for support in rebuilding efforts.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
