DStv Introduces Sports Package in South Africa Amid Billing Issues
DStv has transitioned its Compact package to a Sports bouquet in South Africa, effective September 17, 2026. This change aims to enhance the sporting identity of the subscription service, combining offerings from Compact with extensive sports coverage, including the Premier League and Champions League.
However, this restructuring has led to complaints from former Showmax subscribers who were offered a promotional DStv Stream Compact subscription at R99 monthly. After the migration to the Sports package, some customers reported unexpected charges, including one who received a bill of R389.32 for a subscription they did not recognize.
MultiChoice acknowledged the billing issues and stated that eligible former Showmax customers would retain their promotional price and original terms. Customers experiencing problems were advised to contact DStv Customer Care.
It is important for Nigerian subscribers to note that the Compact package remains advertised on DStv Nigeria’s official website, and the South African changes do not automatically apply to them.
