Ebonyi State Police Initiative to Boost Security and Jobs

On Wednesday, Victor Nwenyi, the commander of the Ebonyi State Command Neighborhood Watch, stated that Ebonyi State is prepared to implement a State Police system. This initiative is designed to strengthen the state's security architecture, create employment opportunities, and enhance intelligence gathering.

During an interaction with journalists in Abakaliki, Nwenyi emphasized that the establishment of a State Police would enable local indigenes to better understand their terrain and participate directly in community security operations. He noted that local hunters and vigilantes in northern Nigeria continue to support security agencies in combating insurgency due to their deep knowledge of the environment.

Nwenyi warned against reducing police training to mere physical drills and advised the government to engage experts in criminology and security studies to properly train personnel in intelligence gathering, counter-terrorism, and human rights law enforcement procedures.
