Edo State Board Enhances Sanitation at Oluku Dumpsite

The Edo State Waste Management Board (ESWMB) has undertaken maintenance operations at the Otofur dumpsite located in Oluku, Ovia North East Local Government Area, alongside a sanitation exercise at Okha Market in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area. This initiative aims to enhance environmental hygiene within the state.

A statement published on the state government's official Facebook page on Tuesday highlighted the board's concerns regarding the activities of iron scavengers and the indiscriminate littering of waste in the area. Enehita Inegbenehi, the Managing Director of the board, emphasized the urgent need for increased monitoring and public awareness regarding proper waste disposal practices.

The board engaged with traders to promote hygienic waste disposal, warning that improper waste management could attract rodents and contaminate food items, potentially spreading diseases such as Lassa fever. The board also provided free excavation services to clear illegal refuse dumps within the market's vicinity, receiving commendations from traders and passersby for their efforts to sustain sanitation.
