EFCC Extradites Nigerians to US Over Sextortion Cases

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) extradited two Nigerians, Mudashiru Afeez Olawale and Adebola Festus Adekunle, to the United States on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. They face prosecution for alleged online sexual exploitation and sextortion involving two teenage boys.

This extradition followed investigations by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) into sextortion schemes targeting male minors aged 13 to 17. The EFCC reported that the suspects were linked to cases where American teenagers died by suicide after being subjected to online sexual exploitation and blackmail.

The suspects allegedly pressured victims into sending money through various channels, including gift cards and cryptocurrency. Olawale faced a seven-count criminal case, including sexual exploitation of a minor resulting in death.

His extradition was contested in the Federal High Court in Lagos, which initially rejected the application on June 10, 2024. However, the Court of Appeal overturned this decision on July 7, 2026, allowing for his extradition.
