Eight Cattle Killed in Plateau State Attack

On Thursday, July 16, 2026, an attack in Yarwei Village, Fan District, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Plateau State, resulted in the death of eight cattle and injuries to several others. Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, the state chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), confirmed the incident, describing it as unprovoked.

Gunmen reportedly stormed the area while herders were tending to their cattle, leading to sporadic gunfire. MACBAN condemned the attack, expressing concern that such violence could undermine the fragile peace in the region.

They called on the Plateau State government and relevant security agencies to investigate the incident and ensure justice. Additionally, they urged the Fulani community to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands.

The Berom Youth Moulder Association, led by Barr. Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, denied involvement in the cattle killings and criticized MACBAN for prematurely assigning blame without credible evidence.
