Essien Udim Council Defends Akpabio's Wife Against Attacks

The Essien Udim Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State issued a communiqué condemning a campaign of calumny against Dr. Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, the wife of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, following her visit to the Senate Chamber on September 5. The communiqué, signed by Executive Chairman Hon. Elder Ntiedo Usoro, stated that the visit had been misrepresented on social media.

The council affirmed that all necessary protocols and security measures were observed during the visit, which was accompanied by personnel responsible for technical services and verification of the facilities inspected. Allegations suggesting sinister motives behind the visit were dismissed as false and misleading.

The council described Dr. Unoma Akpabio as a devout Catholic and a woman of exemplary character, emphasizing that the visit occurred when plenary was not in session and with appropriate security personnel present. Additionally, the council expressed concern over the use of artificial intelligence to create misleading narratives about the visit, urging the public to verify information before sharing it online.
