EU Backs Morocco's Autonomy Plan for Western Sahara in Unified Position

The European Union has adopted a unified position supporting Morocco's autonomy plan for Western Sahara. During the 15th EU-Morocco Association Council session in Brussels, all 27 EU member states agreed on the importance of genuine autonomy as a feasible solution for the region's dispute.

The joint communiqué signed by the EU foreign affairs ministers and Moroccan officials, including Nasser Bourita and High Representative Kaja Kallas, reiterated the call for discussions without preconditions based on Morocco's autonomy plan. This move aligns with the UN Security Council Resolution 2797 (2025) and supports efforts for a definitive resolution in the region under Moroccan sovereignty.

The EU's backing marks a significant step forward in bilateral relations, following King Mohammed VI's advocacy for the autonomy initiative.
