Ex-Governors Use Senate as Retirement, Claims Oloriegbe

Ibrahim Oloriegbe, a former Senator representing Kwara Central and an All Progressives Congress governorship aspirant, alleged that many former governors who move to the Senate do so as a retirement destination and to shield themselves from anti-corruption agencies. He made these statements during a debate on the 2027 Kwara Central senatorial race in a WhatsApp group called The Kwara Tabloid.

Oloriegbe responded to claims that Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq's gubernatorial experience would make him suitable for the Senate, asserting that the skills required for legislative work differ significantly from those needed in executive roles. He emphasized that senators must personally engage in legislative duties, attend plenary sessions, and maintain close contact with constituents.

Oloriegbe noted that many former governors struggle to adapt to the legislative environment, leading to poor performance and negative consequences for their constituencies.
