Tinubu Urges Local Government Chairmen on Inclusiveness

On Monday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu addressed local government chairmen in Abuja, urging them to uphold fairness, equity, and inclusiveness in their governance practices. His keynote address was delivered by Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, at a workshop organized by the Federal Character Commission.

The workshop, themed “Translating Federal Character Principles into Local Governance: Bridging Policy and Practice,” aimed to enhance the implementation of the Federal Character principle at the grassroots level. Tinubu highlighted Nigeria's diversity as a significant asset and stressed the need for local councils to reflect this diversity in their operations.

He pointed out that the principle of Federal Character, as stated in Section 14(4) of the 1999 Constitution, is crucial for fostering a sense of belonging among Nigerians. The President emphasized that local government councils are vital in governance, being the closest to the citizens, and urged chairmen to ensure governance is inclusive and equitable.

He warned that achieving these goals requires visionary leadership and ethical conduct.
