Former PDP Chairman Bamanga Tukur Laid to Rest in Yola

Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, the former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), passed away at the age of 90 and was buried on September 13, 2023, at his family residence in Yola South, Adamawa State. His burial followed Islamic rites and was attended by family, friends, political associates, and dignitaries, including billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote and Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri.

Tukur's death was announced by his son, Awwal Tukur, just days before what would have been his 91st birthday on September 15. Born on September 15, 1935, Tukur had a distinguished career in public service, serving as General Manager of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) from 1975 to 1982 and later as Governor of the old Gongola State in 1983.

His governorship was cut short by a military coup. After his political career, he founded BHI Holdings and became prominent in African business circles, serving as Executive President of the African Business Roundtable and Chairman of the NEPAD Business Group.
