FAAN Criticized for N30,000 Airport Taxi Fare

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) is under scrutiny for its new airport car-hire service after a viral TikTok video by travel content creator Chris Joondeph revealed he was quoted N30,000 for a trip from Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos to the Radisson Blu Hotel in Ikeja. Joondeph expressed shock at the fare, which he noted was previously around N8,000.

He opted for an alternative ride-hailing service, paying N6,100 instead. Comparisons showed that FAAN's new car-hire platform, ACHRAMS, lists fares from the airport to the city center between N10,000 and N20,000, while inter-state journeys range from N30,000 to N60,000.

In contrast, e-hailing services like Bolt and Uber offered much lower rates for the same journey. Social media users criticized the high fares, with some labeling them as exploitation and a rip-off.

FAAN had recently banned other e-hailing services from operating at the airport, claiming it was a temporary measure to enhance passenger security and comfort.
