Fake DSS Operative Arrested in Abuja for Extortion

Maiye, who claimed to be from Agbajojun Village in Mopamuro Local Government Area of Kogi State, was arrested by DSS officers at NITEL Junction, Adetokunbo Ademola Way, Wuse II, Abuja. At the time of his arrest, he was wearing a DSS tactical uniform and was armed with a fake pistol.

A security source indicated that the DSS acted on credible intelligence regarding Maiye's use of the uniform and weapon to intimidate and extort money from commuters and motorists. During interrogation, Maiye claimed that his brother, Monday Maiye, was a DSS personnel who had died years ago, asserting that the uniform belonged to his late brother.

The suspect is currently under interrogation, and the DSS is investigating how he obtained the uniform and kit. Investigators are also trying to determine the duration of his involvement in impersonation and extortion, highlighting concerns over individuals impersonating security personnel to commit crimes.
