FCTA Relaunches 'Operation Sweep Abuja' for Security

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has reactivated 'Operation Sweep Abuja' to address rising crime, particularly kidnapping, in the Federal Capital Territory. The operation was relaunched on Friday by the FCT Police, led by Ahm Sanusi.

This initiative aims to strengthen security in Abuja, especially with the upcoming political activities leading to the 2027 elections. The original 'Operation Sweep Abuja' was first launched in 2025 under the directive of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

Sanusi emphasized the importance of collaboration among military, paramilitary, and security agencies to effectively confront threats and maintain peace in the territory. The operation will not target any specific religious or cultural groups but will focus solely on criminal activities.

Adamu Gwari, the director of the FCT Security Department, reiterated the administration's commitment to ensuring the task force achieves its objectives, providing maximum support for the operation. Special measures will also be implemented to ensure a peaceful Sallah celebration in the coming weeks.
