Federal Court Orders INEC to Recognize NDC's Modified Party Logo

A Federal High Court in Abuja has directed INEC to upload and use the Nigeria Democratic Congress's new logo design for the 2027 elections.
The Nigeria Democratic Congress has won a court battle to force the Independent National Electoral Commission to adopt its redesigned party logo. Justice J.
O. Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja issued the ruling on September 8, 2026, requiring INEC to recognize and implement the modified digital logo that the NDC submitted to the electoral body.
According to party National Leader Henry Seriake Dickson, the situation arose after INEC initially accepted and uploaded the NDC's new logo, then unexpectedly removed it without explanation and reverted to the previous design. The NDC subsequently filed a lawsuit against INEC in August 2026, challenging what the party characterized as the commission's unlawful refusal to permit the logo modification.
The court found that INEC's stance violated the NDC's constitutional rights and authority to modify its own party symbols. The judgment determined that the commission had acted improperly in blocking the logo change despite the party's full compliance with applicable procedures and regulations.
Dickson announced the court decision through a statement on social media, directing NDC candidates, members, and supporters to immediately begin using the modified logo. The ruling applies specifically to the 2027 election cycle, establishing a concrete timeline for INEC's compliance with the court order.
