FG Praised as NBC Mediates Ekiti-Kwara Border Dispute

The Ekiti State Government commended the federal government for the National Boundary Commission's (NBC) decision to mediate in the ongoing border dispute between Eda Oniyo in Ekiti State and Obbo-Ayegunle in Kwara State. Deputy Governor Chief Monisade Afuye, speaking at a joint meeting, stated that this mediation is crucial for de-escalating tensions and preventing violence.

She assured that Governor Biodun Oyebanji is committed to maintaining good relations with Kwara State. Afuye explained that the dispute originated from Kwara State farmers planting economic trees in areas demarcated as Ekiti territory by colonial authorities.

She praised both states and their traditional institutions for opting for diplomacy and dialogue to resolve the crisis. Kwara State Deputy Governor Mr.

Kayode Alabi, represented by Mr. Ayantola Malomo, urged the NBC to consider additional archival documents beyond colonial records.

Alabi expressed Kwara State's willingness to reach agreements and concessions for a harmonious coexistence.
