UBEC Launches 10-Year Education Roadmap for 2026-2035

The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) is prepared to implement its 10-year universal basic education roadmap from 2026 to 2035, beginning in the first week of October 2026. UBEC Executive Secretary, Dr. Aisha Garba, announced this during a consultative workshop in Abuja with chairmen of the 36 State Universal Basic Education Boards (SUBEBs) and UBEC directors.

The new roadmap aims to replace the previous isolated infrastructure projects with a "whole school approach" that addresses the comprehensive needs of schools. Dr. Garba introduced the Basic Education Action Plan Management System (BEAPMS), a digital platform designed to enhance planning, transparency, and monitoring of basic education projects.

The new approach mandates states to identify all critical gaps in schools before UBEC can approve their action plans. Additionally, a revised matching grant formula will allow states to allocate UBEC funding based on their specific educational needs, focusing on maintenance and improvement rather than solely on new infrastructure.
