FG Appoints Professor Rotimi to National Policing Bill Committee

The Federal Government of Nigeria has appointed Professor Emmanuel Olukemi Rotimi from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, as a member of the Policy Advisory Committee supporting the Presidential Working Group on the National Policing Bill. Rotimi was selected due to his extensive academic research on the history and development of policing in Nigeria, particularly his studies on the country’s former decentralized police systems.

The National Policing Bill aims to establish a legal framework for the operation of both Federal and State Police Services. The Presidential Working Group, chaired by Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, has been tasked with preparing a draft of the proposed legislation within seven weeks for submission to the Federal Ministry of Justice.

The Policy Advisory Committee, led by retired Justice Mohammed Abdullahi Liman, will provide policy guidance, oversee the drafting process, and review the bill's contents before finalization. Rotimi's academic contributions include research on Native Administration Police Forces and the publication of his book, "The Police in a Federal State: The Nigerian Experience.".
