FG Plans Limpye Dam for Water and Power in Plateau State

The federal government of Nigeria has announced plans to construct a new dam in Limpye, located in the Ampang East District of Kanke local government area, Plateau state. This initiative aims to improve water supply, irrigation farming, and power generation in the North Central region.

Engr Prof Joseph Utsev, the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, disclosed these plans on Monday during an assessment visit to the proposed dam site, accompanied by Prof Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Engr Ali Ibrahim Dallah, Director of Dams and Reservoir Operations. The visit was directed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to assess the conditions of dams nationwide for rehabilitation and development.

Prof Utsev stated that the Limpye dam project would commence following feasibility studies and Federal Executive Council approval. The dam is expected to provide clean water, enhance irrigation, create job opportunities, and increase hydropower generation.

Prof Yilwatda emphasized that the dam would address water supply challenges and boost economic opportunities.
