FG Invests $11M in Solar Power for Kebbi Communities
The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), announced an investment of $11 million to establish a 3.5 megawatt solar power plant in the Ambursa area of Kebbi State. Dr.
Abba Abubakar Aliyu, the Managing Director of REA, disclosed this during a courtesy visit to Governor Nasir Idris at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi. The project, which is being developed in partnership with Kelm Elicom, will receive an additional $6 million injection.
It is expected to provide electricity to 1,500 households. The REA is mandated by the Federal Ministry of Power to expand electricity access, connect unserved communities to the national grid, and improve supply to underserved areas.
The Federal Government has secured $750 million from the World Bank for the distribution of renewable energy access through the Scale DARE program, aiming to deploy 1,300 mini grids nationwide. The Kebbi project will include eight kilometers of distribution network and battery storage facilities.
Governor Nasir Idris assured the agency of the state government's full support for the successful implementation of the project.
