FG Launches 100 Electric Buses for Civil Servants

The Federal Government commissioned 100 electric buses as part of the Renewed Hope Mass Transit Programme to address transportation challenges faced by federal civil servants and enhance their welfare. The launch occurred on Wednesday at Eagle Square, Abuja, with Mrs Didi Walson-Jack, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, marking the event as a major milestone.

This initiative includes the first phase, which consists of 37 buses, and is seen as Walson-Jack's "parting gift" to civil servants, occurring less than 24 hours before her tenure ended. She emphasized that transportation significantly affects workers' finances, safety, punctuality, and productivity.

The initiative aims to provide affordable and reliable transportation, enabling civil servants to save money and reduce commuting risks. Operations will start with a pilot phase on selected routes before a full rollout, with buses also deployed to Federal Secretariats across states.

A Special Purpose Vehicle has been established for the management, maintenance, and sustainability of the buses.
