Gombe State Launches 160-Shop Vegetable Market

The Federal Government of Nigeria inaugurated a 160-shop vegetable market in Gombe State, specifically in the Yamaltu Deba Local Government Area, to strengthen market access for farmers and enhance the agricultural value chain. The project, developed by the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA), includes complementary infrastructure such as perimeter fencing, roads, solar-powered streetlights, and water facilities.

Corneliu Adebayo, the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of NALDA, described the market as a model of collaboration between the federal and state governments. The initiative aims to provide market linkages for vegetable farmers and stimulate economic activity in the area.

Gombe State is the second state in the northeast to benefit from the federal government's Renewed Hope Mega Farm Project, which focuses on food security and rural development. Governor Muhammadu Yahaya expressed support for the project, emphasizing the importance of collaboration among different government levels to improve livelihoods and economic opportunities for rural communities.
