Nigeria Unveils National Policy to Combat Drug Abuse in Schools

The Federal Government of Nigeria has introduced a national policy on drug abuse in schools to address the increasing addiction rates among students. The policy, launched in Abuja by the Minister of Education Tunji Alausa, aims to strengthen the existing framework and fill critical gaps in combating drug abuse.

It includes guidelines for implementing drug abuse prevention measures, counseling, and behavior support mechanisms. The government plans to revise secondary school curricula to incorporate drug prevention lessons and conduct compulsory drug tests for students.

Additionally, initiatives like the Student Venture Capital Grant and partnerships with organizations like UNESCO and UNICEF will support the education sector's efforts.
