FG Urged to Boost Rescue Efforts for Kaiama Kidnapping Victims

At a joint press conference in Abuja, various groups urged the Federal Government to intensify rescue operations for victims abducted during a February 3 attack on Woro and neighboring Nuku communities, which resulted in over 200 deaths and the kidnapping of more than 170 individuals, including women and children. Umaru Semo, representing the groups, expressed deep concern over the ongoing captivity of these victims and called for urgent action from security agencies to restore public confidence. The groups also requested a greater deployment of security personnel in Kaiama and Baruten Local Government Areas of Kwara State, as well as in adjacent Borgu and Agwara LGAs in Niger State and parts of southern Kebbi State.

Dr. Hussaini Abdu, Country Director of CARE International in Nigeria, criticized the government's handling of the situation, noting that Vice President Kashim Shettima had intended to visit Woro but was redirected to Ilorin due to infrastructural issues.

The groups questioned the disparity in the government's response to kidnappings in different regions.
