Urgent Call for Action Amid Violence in Kwara Communities

The Kaiama Development Association and the Batombu Unity and Development Initiative have called for urgent intervention from the Federal Government, Kwara State Government, and the international community regarding escalating violence in Kaiama and Baruten Local Government Areas. Professor Umar Ishiaku Semo, Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of both organizations, stated that the communities are politically and developmentally neglected despite being vital to Kwara State's agriculture.

He reported that since January 2026, over 500 people have been killed, with significant attacks including the February 3 assault on Woro and Nuku, resulting in over 200 deaths and more than 170 abductions. The violence has continued, with attacks on Tungan Aboki and Baruten communities, including the desecration of the Emir's palace.

Thousands have been displaced, and the region is facing a humanitarian and security crisis, with families fleeing their homes and livelihoods.
