FG warns public against scammers selling Emefiele’s seized properties

The Federal Government has issued a warning to the public about scammers attempting to sell properties seized from Godwin Emefiele, the former head of the Central Bank of Nigeria. A private company has been given authority to sell 753 homes allegedly held by Emefiele.

The Ministry of Housing advised the public to be cautious and speak directly to Ministry representatives. Emefiele has been charged by the EFCC with stealing billions of naira and illegally acquiring the housing estate in question.

The government plans to sell the estate to low and moderate-income Nigerians, but Emefiele has filed an injunction to prevent any changes to the property. The estate, spanning square meters and comprising various housing types, was seized by the EFCC in December 2024.

Emefiele is named as a defendant in the case.
