FIFA Accuses UEFA of Misinformation Over World Cup Plans

FIFA has accused UEFA of conducting a misinformation campaign in its legal efforts to access documents related to FIFA President Gianni Infantino's proposal to sell parts of the World Cup. In a court filing in Florida, FIFA claims that UEFA's actions aim to influence the upcoming FIFA presidential election scheduled for March.

Infantino's controversial proposal, which suggested creating a commercial subsidiary to manage major events like the World Cup, faced significant backlash and was quickly abandoned. FIFA's filing alleges that UEFA made numerous false statements about Infantino, including claims that he sought personal profit from the proposal.

Despite the controversy, Infantino confirmed his intention to run for re-election next March and indicated plans to distribute more funds to FIFA members from its reserves. He stated that the withdrawn proposal was meant to generate additional funding for football.

Support for Infantino has come from Saudi Arabia, CAF, and CONMEBOL.
