Sen. Ngwu Calls for Urgent Action on Ivo River Dam Project

Sen. Osita Ngwu, representing Enugu West Senatorial District and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Air Force, has called on the Federal Government to urgently complete the Ivo River Dam Project in Enugu. This appeal follows severe flooding affecting communities in Aninri and other Local Government Areas.

Ngwu emphasized that the dam, intended for water supply, irrigation, fishery, and electricity generation, should not remain abandoned, as it poses risks to surrounding communities. He urged the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and other relevant agencies to respond promptly and prioritize the dam's completion under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration.

The project, initiated under a previous administration, has faced delays and abandonment, failing to deliver its intended benefits. Ngwu has repeatedly contacted the Ministry since 2023 regarding the dam's status and funding, stressing that the current flooding situation necessitates immediate action to protect residents' homes and livelihoods.
