Four Dead in Katsina Ramadan Alms Distribution Stampede

On February 26, 2026, at 9:00 PM, a tragic stampede occurred during an annual Ramadan alms distribution event organized by philanthropist Alhaji Dahiru Usman Sarki in Kofar Guga Quarter, Katsina. The incident resulted in the deaths of four individuals who succumbed to injuries sustained during the chaos.

The Katsina State Police, represented by DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, confirmed that they received a distress call at the central police station, leading to immediate deployment of officers to the scene to restore order and assist the injured. Unfortunately, despite efforts to provide medical attention, four victims later died from their injuries.

CP Bello Shehu of the Katsina State Police Command expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery. A full-scale investigation has been initiated to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragedy and to implement measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Authorities have urged organizers of public charity events, especially during Ramadan, to notify police in advance for adequate security and crowd control.
