Fubara Launches Payroll Verification to Tackle Ghost Workers

On Monday, during the commissioning of the Omademe Internal Roads Project in Ikwerre Local Government Area, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara announced the approval of a comprehensive staff payroll verification exercise targeting "ghost" workers in the state's 23 local government areas. He stated that this initiative aims to address the longstanding issue of bloated salary payrolls, which has persisted even before his administration.

Fubara noted that the previous Local Government Service Commission had begun addressing this issue before the imposition of emergency rule in the state. He emphasized that the verification exercise would be conducted with objectivity and integrity, devoid of political influence.

Fubara, drawing on his experience as a former Treasury Officer, has engaged ICT personnel to assist in the process. He reiterated that the exercise is not politically motivated and called for a focus on facts rather than political affiliations.

Additionally, he described the Omademe road project as part of his administration's efforts to improve rural connectivity and economic activities.
